When I started learning digital marketing, I thought websites were mainly about design, layout, and functionality.
Coming from a frontend development background, most of my focus was on building pages, fixing issues, and making sure everything worked correctly.
But my first digital marketing project changed the way I look at websites.
The Project
For my capstone project, I reviewed one company and compared it with several competitors in the wall panel and interior surface industry.
At first, I expected to focus on products, features, and website design.
Instead, I found something more interesting.
Most companies had good products.
Many had attractive websites.
Some had active social media and blogs.
Yet there was still a gap.
The Missing Piece
I noticed that most websites focused on one of three things:
- Inspiration
- Education
- Products
Some companies showed beautiful project photos.
Others explained technical specifications.
Others listed products and pricing.
But very few connected these pieces into a complete customer journey.
Visitors could find information, but they were not always guided toward making a decision.
A Shift In Thinking
This was the biggest lesson for me.
Good websites are not just about displaying information.
They help visitors move from uncertainty to confidence.
A visitor may arrive with questions like:
- Is this suitable for my home?
- How much will it cost?
- Is it difficult to install?
- Can I trust this company?
If those questions are not answered clearly, visitors may leave even if the product is good.
Looking Beyond Design
Before this project, I mainly thought about websites from a frontend perspective.
After this project, I started thinking more about:
- Customer journey
- Messaging
- Trust
- Content flow
- Conversion paths
I realised that design and development are only part of the picture.
The real goal is helping visitors understand what to do next.
Why This Website Exists
This website is my learning journal.
As I continue reviewing websites, studying SEO, and learning digital marketing, I will share observations and lessons from real examples.
My focus is simple:
- Clarity
- Trust
- Journey
Can visitors understand the business?
Do they trust what they see?
Are they guided toward the next step?
These are the questions I will continue exploring through future reviews, learning notes, and reflections.
And this project was the first step.
